Educators know that safety is one of the key foundations in early learning in children because it gives children the privilege to explore and learn without worrying about being harmed in the classroom. Pimento & Kernested (20225 stated that all educators must protect children's physical and emotional well-being.
Importance of Safety
Safety is a wonderful fundamental element in early childhood education because it immediately impacts children's health, their development, and their capability to learn. Barbara Pimento and Deborah Kernested (2024) highlight in Healthy Foundations in Early Childhood Settings (7th ed.) that guarantee children's health and safety is " a cornerstone of quality early learning and care" .
The Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) Examples
- Section 36 of O. Reg. 137/15 states that all licensed centers " make a daily observation before the child goes around other children in the beginning to associate with other children".(2025)
- Section 38 requires a written policy and process for " serious occurrences", and then a final report to be given to a Program Adviser within 24 hours. (2025)

The Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA, 2025) guarantees the safety of infants 0 to 18 months by placing strict standards for supervision, environment, and health practices in all licensed childcare settings.
Immunization form for Child

The form is to make sure that all the children meet immunization standards or have been given the okay to go back to the center.
Requirement
The centres keep the records in the child's file at all times and even update them if there are any new additional vaccines given.

In a case of an outbreak, any staff who is unvaccinated may be required to stay at home until the spread of the outbreak comes to an end, as per TBH guidance.
